Are the Cypriot alliances enough to restrict Erdogan’s claims in the Eastern Mediterranean?

Dr. Costas Mavrides is a Cypriot member of the European Parliament since 2014 and is part of the Socialist and Democrats group. For the current mandate (2019-2024) he has been elected Chairman of the Political Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean (PA-UfM). He studied Economics at Rutgers Univsersity (USA) and holds a PhD in economics from the University of Houston.

After the firing of the Head of the Turkish Central Bank the Turkish currency plummeted dramatically. Is this event going to play any crucial role to the forthcoming Cypriot-Turkish talks and to change the stance of European Union? Is this economic crisis going to make its foreign policy weaker?

On March 25, the European Council completed a meeting which started in December discussing about the crucial situation in Eastern Mediterranean. The EU Council decided to approach the crisis in East. Med by enhancing once again its relations with Turkey instead of restricting President Erdogan and his violations. They plan to give more money to Turkey in the framework of the EU-Turkey Statement. What is the Cypriot opinion about that? Could you propose a substantial solution for the European foreign policy against Erdogan treat?
